RUMOR: SPIDER-MAN To Face A Savage Villain In BRAND NEW DAY - SPOILERS

Following yesterday's report about a certain OG Avenger returning for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a new rumor may shed some light on how the character connects to the movie's main villain...

By MarkCassidy - May 27, 2025 07:05 AM EST

Though casting news wouldn't usually be considered a spoiler, the fact that this actor's involvement hasn't been made official yet means there's a chance it's being kept under wraps for a reason. So, just in case, here's your spoiler warning.

Yesterday, Nexus Point News reported that Mark Ruffalo is set to return as Bruce Banner for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, noting that "Banner’s appearance will be much larger than a cameo, and Ruffalo will have a substantial role in the film."

Again, this hasn't been confirmed by the trades yet, but given the source's track record, we'd say the report is on the level.

Fans have been speculating about what part Banner/Hulk might play in the story, but most theories seem to be working under the assumption that the Avenger will be joining forces with Tom Holland's Peter Parker to face the movie's big bad.

But what if the Hulk is the big bad?

Josh from Den Of Nerds has heard that the Green Goliath will serve as the villain of the piece, which would presumably mean that Smart Hulk, or Professor Hulk if you prefer, will revert to his Savage form and embark on one of his signature rampages. This would line up with previous rumors relating to Marvel's plans for the character, and could lay the groundwork for a future World War Hulk-inspired event.

There have also been reports claiming that an earlier idea (we don't know if it ever made it to the script stage) for Brand New Day would have seen Spidey team-up with the Punisher to take on the Hulk.

Other villains are expected to feature (Tombstone, Scorpion and Boomerang are rumored following a recent report from a Disney event in Vegas), but Spider-Man doing battle with the Hulk is one of many clashes comic book fans have been waiting to see on the big screen, so this potential showdown would be sure to generate a lot of hype and excitement.

If Ruffalo is indeed set to appear, he'll join new cast members Sadie Sink (the latest rumor points to her playing Mayday Parker) and Liza Colón-Zayas. We have also heard that Steven Yeun is in talks for an undisclosed role, and Michael Mando is expected to return as the Scorpion.

Unlike the previous films, Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home, Brand New Day is the name of a specific arc from the comics, and focuses on Peter Parker attempting to rebuild his life following the events of the status quo-altering One More Day and Civil War.

Brand New Day features a number of new characters such as Carlie Cooper and Lily Hollister, aka the supervillain Menace, which has led to speculation that Sink may have been cast in one of these roles.

“I’m spending my time exploring the next stage of this amazing character with a team of the most incredible artists in the world," said director Destin Daniel Cretton during CinemaCon. "We’re all, just daily, nerding out over the suit, how to swing, how to create an event, an emotional story, and a ride that we haven’t really seen before"

Holland did not appear in Las Vegas for the Sony presentation, but did send the following video message.

"I am so sorry I can’t be with you. I am halfway around the world shooting a movie. I know we left you with a massive cliffhanger at the end of No Way Home, so Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a fresh start. It is exactly that. That’s all I can say."

Spider-Man 4 was recently pushed back a week from July 24, 2026 to July 31, 2026.

@AllsGood - And all the Hulks will appear, right? Like you said in Cap 4?

Really missing those lies of yours.

@AllsGood -
This would be meaningful in the MCU if the two characters had any interaction prior - but they haven't. I don't think they've even shared a single line of dialogue.

@AllsNotGood - As long as I can keep getting Marvel Studio Spider-Man movies. I don't ever have to see another Steve Rodgers, Captain America and Tony Stark's, Iron-Man movie again.

Meet my two Favorite Marvel Comics Superhero's. The Hulk Number 1 and Spider-Man 2.

@Scarilian - Spider-Man and Hulk meeting in the MCU would be Historic would be Huge.

Just like the Hulk VS Wolverine would be Historic both Must See in the MCU.

Next will be the Hulk VS The Thing.

@AllsGood -
I'd rather have it pay-off the post-credits of prior Spider-man movies: Scorpion, Venom, focus on Peter neglecting his normal life to be Spider-man.

If you want Bruce/Hulk to come in at the end and give him a motivational pep-talk to convince him to fight alongside the Avengers again, sure, but I don't think you can get butts in seats by having him team up with Bruce/Hulk - especially when they tried to draw people in with Hulk for Brave New World and that failed.

"Anyone see Steve Rodgers, Captain America and Tony Stark's, Iron-Man?"

Do you mean Steve Rogers and Tony Stark?

Or Steve Rogers' Captain America and Tony Stark's Iron Man?

I don't know how many times I've said this on the numerous articles about this movie over the last year or so but...

What even is this movie?

Now it's a Spidey Vs Hulk movie all of a sudden.

@Wahhvacado - Kingpin is like right there. Probably the biggest Spidey villain that he's never faced in live action.

This also affords them many opportunities for other street level heroes (DD) and lower level mob bosses and enforcers.

@Wahhvacado @ObserverIO - no one know and these rumors are all made up.

It will be wise for Sony to use another Multiverse shenanigan and get tobey and andrew back.

It will make more money and a good lead in to Doomsday.

I wont settle for a street level adventure for now imo.

"What even is this movie?"

My hope is that it's all nonsense, like how they were originally going to market Spider-man: NWH as being Spider-man VS Doctor Strange.

Ideally it's actually exactly what Spider-man:NWH was setting up - which would be the symbiote saga. Peter Parker gaining the symbiote because he's at his lowest point disregarding his responsibilities as Peter Parker to be Spider-man all the time, with his only lifeline being the mysterious vigilante, Black Cat (Sadie Sink)

MGSSnake1988 - 5/27/2025, 7:40 AM
If this is true, Hulk really didn't do anything significant in the Multiverse Saga.

Phase Four: Group call with Shang-Chi and analyzes the ten rings but didn't have time to explain and left for no reason. (Shang-Chi) Mentoring sessions with his cousin She-Hulk and lets his enemy Emil Blonsky hang out with Wong for no reason. (She-Hulk)

Phase Five: No appearance at all, except indirectly almost destroying the White House by not checking on his enemies Red Hulk and Leader and almost getting his own teammate Sam Wilson killed amongst the chaos. (Cap 4)

All I want to see is Hulk released as the strongest and baddest there is

Not this bitch Thanos [frick]ing bitch slapped and wearing [frick]ing glasses and making howling sounds to say I'm still mean and green but instead bitch and green.

Why the [frick] Marvel turned our boy into this is beyond me.

But let's get him back to his roots. Shit, Red Hulk was there, even though we got him for a short while. Let's see The Incredible Hulk.

For [frick]s Sake

Maybe this actually a prestige format Spider-Man TV show and all these disparate rumors are just single episodes.

Like we're gonna get a bunch of gang war episodes with Daredevil, Kingpin, Scorpion, Tombstone, Mr Negative etc, a Battleworld episode, an Ant Man episode, a Black Cat episode, a Spider-Island episode, a NWH 2 with Sadie Sink as May Parker, a Shang Chi episode, a Knull epsiode, a Green Goblin episode, a Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends episode, a random Boomerang episode, a globe trotting adventure episode, a Doomsday tie-in incursion episode, an episode about Spider-Man giving up his life as Peter Parker, an episode about Peter Parker giving up his life as Spider-Man, an episode featuring the return of Ned and MJ and Ned becomes the Hobgoblin, A Mephisto episode, a Sinister Six episode, an episode where a gender-flipped Chameleon is the main villain, a passing of the mantle episode with Miles Morales, a Gwen Stacy episode, a Spider-Gwen episode, an alien costume episode, a non Eddie Brock Venom episode, an Eddie Brock Venom episode, a Ghost Rider episode, a Shocker episode and an episode featuring Spider-Man teaming up with Punisher to fight the Hulk!

That's actually a lot of episodes. With all these rumors Spider-Man: Brand New Day needs a couple of seasons at least.

Which if any of these rumors are true?

WTF is this movie?!

@ObserverIO - Gotta hit the dart board eventually! The rise of "scoopers" is something I absolutely hate. "I'm hearing Spidey will bend over and pick up a quarter at a pivotal point in the movie." It's like those people who stick coins to the clammy skin and claim to be magnetic. If you *actually* had any juice you would be able to do far more than any of this.

Spider-man getting the symbiote suit, allying with Black Cat in a winter setting - facing off against Scorpion who becomes Venom would be the ideal movie.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 5/27/2025, 9:22 AM
Yeah , I’m less enthused about him being the villain of the piece then perhaps an ally to Peter (that is if he’s even in it in the first place)…

If you want a fight between them then have someone like a Mister Negative be the big bad who has this corrupting touch , you could then have Banner be influenced by that and have the Spidey vs Hulk fight then until the former breaks the control.
Scarilian
Scarilian - 5/27/2025, 9:39 AM
Spider-man has had zero interactions with Bruce Banner or Hulk in the MCU - even in the final battle of Endgame. It'd be so utterly lackluster to have Hulk appear in Spider-man: Brand New Day.
